What is Deconstruction?
Deconstruction is when a person reexamines their religious beliefs. Sometimes they are just questioning a small doctrine and other times they are questioning the truth claims of the religion itself.
Cult-like religions have a very strict interpretation of what is the right belief. There's a lot of messages given to members about the dangers of asking questions or having doubts or falling away
Deconstruction, the basic act of independent thinking, threatens the stability that a group certainty affords. For many people, deconstruction can be freeing and it can also be very scary at the same time.
Some people who deconstruct change just an aspect of their belief and keep a lot of the rest of it intact. Other times people go on to Deconvert or to Disaffiliate and leave the religion altogether.
